Elias Funez has rejoined the Patterson Irrigator staff, taking over for news reporter Nick Rappley who left the newspaper on May 7.

Patterson native Funez will cover community events, City Council and Planning Commission meetings and local crimes. Funez previously worked at the Irrigator from 2005 to 2012, serving as staff photographer.

He is a 2001 graduate of Patterson High School and teaches an afterschool photography class at PHS. Funez has also attended Modesto Junior College, working towards a photography degree.

He is also an on-call photographer for the Modesto Bee.

Funez enjoys the outdoors and leads the hiking portion of the Hikes, Bikes and Kayak program offered by Patterson Parks and Recreation Department each spring.

Funez served on the Patterson Planning Commission from 2008 to 2010 and on the Patterson Parks and Recreation Commission from 2010 to 2012.
