Freda Hansen, 87, died peacefully April 27, 2014 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Hansen was born on March 6, 1927 on the family ranch in Patterson to Gladys and Neils Hansen. Her father was the rural postal carrier for 32 years on the West Side. Her family has lived and farmed in the Patterson area since 1901.
Mrs. Hansen attended local schools and was accepted to University of California, Berkeley in 1944 to pursue a degree in education. During World War II she received a partial credential and taught in a “one room” school in Grayson. During that time she met
and married Rudolph Hansen and raised three children. They were married 59 years.
Mrs. Hansen completed her teaching credential through Stanislaus State University and taught in local schools for the next 30 years. She was a member of the Federated Church, the Retired Teachers Association, Historical Society, and continued to manage the family ranch until her death.
Mrs. Hansen was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph, her daughter Linda Moore, and son Robert Hansen. She is survived by her son Steven Hansen of Redding, numerous nieces and nephews, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
