The Susan G. Komen ®Sacramento Valley Affiliate awarded $500,000 to 13 organizations covering its 19-county service area. The local Center for Human Services Westside Family Resource Centers were among those who received a grant.

Center for Human Services’ Westside Family Resource Centers has received continued funding from Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for the past several years, allowing the organization to continue to provide education and increase breast cancer awareness as well as highlight the importance of early breast cancer detection.

One in eight women in the U.S will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime but with heightened awareness, early detection through screening, improved treatment methods and increased access to breast health services, people today have a greater chance of survival than ever before.

There is a 98 percent survival rate for Stage I and II breast cancers and the survival rate for late stage diagnosis is only 23 percent.
