Hello, my name is Wendi Fernandez. I am a student at Patterson High School, and it has been brought to my attention that there will no longer be a Stanislaus County Sheriff on our school’s campus after this year.
He will soon be replaced by a security guard. I would like to point out some pros and cons within this situation.
I just don’t see what a security guard will be able to do compared to a Stanislaus County Sheriff. We already have campus security that will have the same amount of power as the “New Guards.”
The sheriffs we’ve had on our campus throughout the years have helped make me feel safe by solving problems that are going around all campuses here in the Patterson Joint Unified School District.
We do have a security guard at our local skate park and I do work for the city of Patterson, so I keep in contact with him. I am strongly able to say that he does not do the job that he is assigned to do. He is also not the first that doesn’t meet our standards.
Our current school’s sheriff has helped out many students with our senior PREP project, and also put together a wonderful criminal justice program to help students gain knowledge in the criminal field, and to be prepared on what to expect next.
From my knowledge our school officer does NOT only handle and deal with the students at Patterson High School, he also manages all schools here in Patterson, and I would like you to keep in mind that our Sheriff’s DO meet standards and do help out a lot around here.
I greatly appreciate you taking the time out of your day to read this letter, and hope you take this into consideration.
