The dates have been set for next year’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first class to graduate from Patterson High School.

The celebration, actually an all-class reunion, will be held Labor Day weekend of 2015. The first class to graduate from PHS – then called Patterson Union High School – was in early June of 1915. That first class numbered six students.

The celebration’s planning committee is being chaired by Bob Vizzolini, who resides in Newman. He is a member of the PHS class of 1963 and a former principal at Patterson High.

The committee met Monday evening, Jan. 20, for the first time and will convene next on March 10. Besides Vizzolini, committee members include Michele Bays, Linda Briggs, Dave Klein, Elizabette Guecamburu, Cathy Mahaffey, Sharon Reeves, April Terrero, Sonia Musson, and PHS Principal Dave Stubbs.

A number of activities for the celebratory weekend were discussed, including attending a home football game that Friday evening when the PHS Tigers will host the Ripon Indians.

Other events being considered include a gathering in the downtown parks, tours of the high school campus and golfing at Diablo Grande. Patterson’s service clubs, and their interest in participating in the weekend activities, were discussed as well.

Members of the committee encourage input from past graduates, but prefer ideas prior to their next meeting in March.

Additionally encouraged are theme suggestions for the celebration, which may be adopted by next year’s Apricot Fiesta.

Patterson’s downtown museum already has a room display of past high school artifacts put together for the celebration by the Soroptimist Club. Museum Curator Ron Swift said the display will be expanded to a second room in the months prior to the celebration.

Several PHS classes may choose to hold individual reunion gatherings that weekend and are encouraged to do so. The class of 1965 already is planning to hold its 50-year reunion on that weekend. Other classes that are planning reunions during this time should contact any of the committee members.
