NEWMAN— At approximately 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, officers from the Newman Police Department implemented a search warrant which helped nab an attempted murder suspect at a residence located in the 1300 block of P Street in Newman.
According to a release by the city of Newman Police Department, a warrant of arrest had been previously attained for 22-year-old resident Pedro Garcia. Garcia has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, stemming from the Dec. 29, 2013 shooting of two juvenile Newman residents.
According to the Newman Police Department, several shots were fired from a vehicle that day while driving in the alley between Q and P streets in the 1500 block. The two juvenile victims, one male and one female, were standing near a structure when the shots occurred.
Both were struck by bullets but are reported to have recovered from their injuries. After further investigation into the Dec. 29th incident, authorities determined the shooting was gang related.
After a thorough search within the residence, officers found a handgun and a loaded sawed-off shotgun; both weapon were seized as evidence, while the handgun will be analyzed alongside previously recovered slugs.
Garcia was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on one count of possession of a short-barreled shotgun and two counts of attempted murder. Garcia’s bail amount listed on the warrant of arrest was $1 million.
Although Garcia has been nabbed, there are additional suspects involved in this incident. Officers are currently in the process of determining their roles and identities.
