Free flu shot clinic scheduled

WHEN: 12 Noon to 8 p.m.

WHERE: Emanuel Family Practice, 1010 W. Las Palmas Ave., Suite E, in the True Value Hardware shopping center.

DETAILS: Emanuel Family Practice will be offering a free flu shot clinic on Thursday, Nov. 7 to local residents. The free flu shot clinic is for adults 18 and older only and can accommodate the first 300 adults. Dr. Shelle Glover will be available to meet with patients and answer questions. In addition, refreshments will be served.

Saturday, Nov. 9

Musicians take part in concert

WHEN: 3 p.m.

WHERE: Gallo Center for the Arts, 100 I St.

DETAILS: Creekside Middle School students Ashley Jepson and Xandra Carter will be among the musicians playing in the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra Opening Season Concert on Saturday, Nov. 9. Ashley, a seventh-grader, is a violin student and Xandra, and eighth-grader, is a bass player, both taught by local music instructor Susan Ingram.

Celebrating its 37th season, Ryan Murray, symphony music director, and the youth will present works by Verdi, Handel and Williams, among others.

Cash Tribute featuring James Garner

WHEN: Doors open at 7 p.m. and show begins at 8 p.m.

WHERE: Westside Theatre, 1331 Main St., Newman

DETAILS: The Cash Tribute show featuring James Garner celebrates the life and music of Johnny Cash also known as The Man in Black. Garner and his band also incorporate historical accounts and personal stories about Cash.

Veterans Day is observed

WHEN: 11 a.m.

WHERE: South Park on the Plaza Circle

DETAILS: The Elijah B. Hayes American Legion Post No. 168 invites community members to a Veterans Day ceremony in the South City Park. The Legion Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Heritage Girls will also join in on the observance of Veterans Day in Patterson. Highlight of the morning will be on Korean War veterans..

Friday, Nov. 15

Teens take part in cook-off

WHEN: 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Hammon Senior Center, 1033 W. Las Palmas Ave

DETAILS: The Patterson Teen Center will present Master Chef Night for the youth between ages 12 to 18, who can sign up in advance to participate for chances to win prizes. Participants should bring their best chicken recipe ingredients. The Teen Center will provide the chicken. Cooking utensils and food provided. First, second and third-place prizes will be awarded.

Saturday, Nov. 16

A taste of Norway

WHEN: Doors open at 3 p.m. and dinner is served at 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: Turlock Senior Center, 1191 Cahill, Turlock

DETAILS: Sons of Norway Garborg Lodge 6-56 of Modesto, will host its annual lutefisk, torsk and meatball dinner. The Village Dancers, and Tim Rude and his Hardanger Fiddle will present entertainment. Dessert will be assorted Norwegian cookies and lefse. A donation drawing is planned and there will be plenty of time to socialize.

COST: Tickets are $18 for adults before Nov. 10 and $20 for adults thereafter and at the door. Children’s tickets are $6 each.
