A bevy of upsets made for a tough week of picking, but Chris Ruiz of Patterson sidestepped enough of the surprising finishes to win Week 9 of the Irrigator's football contest.

Ruiz, Phil Breasher, Amy Castillo, Matt Francesconi, and Kathy Rickerson all posted impressive 16-6 records, but Ruiz's tie-breaker score prediction was closer to the actual score of the tie-breaker game.

Ventura Cantu of Patterson won a large pizza from Lamppost Pizza with his tiebreaker guess of 21-14 for Patterson High’s defeat of Pacheco High of Los Banos, which was spot on.

Entries are due at the Patterson Irrigator, 26 N. Third St., by 5 p.m. Friday, or must be postmarked by 5 p.m.

The football contest wraps up the weekend of Nov. 15.
