The top two Tiger runners took the lead at the start of the 3.1-mile race and kept it until the end. Patterson’s Nathan Stanton led, followed by teammate Antonio Venegas. Stanton finished first in 18 minutes, 1 second, and Venegas was second in 18:36.
The Tiger boys (5-0 WAC) took meet honors with 20 points. Ceres finished with 38.
Rounding out the top six runners for Patterson (5-0 WAC) were Steven Halseth in fourth at 19:31, Tomas Virgen in sixth at 19:56, Dylan Halland in seventh at 19:57 and Carlos Ponce in eighth at 20:38.
In the varsity girls race, Ceres narrowly defeated the Tigers, 27-28.
Patterson (3-2) was led by Lupe Ventura, who finished first overall at 21:19.
Patterson’s Brenda Vargas ran to a fourth-place finish in 24:49. Teammate Jenevy Esqueda ran the 3.1-mile race in 25:03, good for sixth place.
Alejandra Carrasco claimed seventh place in 25:29 for Patterson, and teammate Stephanie Esqueda finished 10th with a run of 26:52.
The Tigers' junior varsity boys team took four of the top five spots in the 2-mile race, winning 21-34.
Sean Hicks finished first for Patterson (5-0), with a time of 12:13. He was followed by Arturo Navarro in second place in 12:20. Daniel Isquierdo took fourth place, finishing with a time of 13:34.
Teammate John McCord (13:44) was the fifth-place runner.
After a busy slate of racing for Patterson's cross country team, the week came to a close Saturday, Oct. 19 with the Bronco Invitational at Willow Hill in Folsom.
Stanton led the local boys in the 3-mile varsity race with a fifth-place time of 16:29.
Venegas, whose 18:20 time placed him 39th, was followed by teammates Halland (20:29, 126th), Jose Jaramillo (22:17, 132nd) and Seth Dalmas (24:06, 146th).
Virgen set the pace for Patterson in the 2-mile JV boys race with a 11th-place finish and a time of 12:45, followed by Hicks(13:27, 23rd), Ponce (13:50, 27th), Navarro (15:08, 52nd) and Isquierdo (15:09, 53rd).
