Patterson nets two more wins

Patterson High’s girls tennis team notched a 6-3 win against visiting Pacheco High of Los Banos on Oct. 1, and an 8-1 home victory against Livingston High on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Patterson (5-2 Western Athletic Conference) swept singles play against the Livingston Wolves on Thursday; at No. 1 singles, the Tigers gained a 6-1, 6-4 win, with Kelby Norfleet of Patterson defeating Jasdeep Bassi of Livingston.

Kendal Norfleet bested Taranpreet Kaur 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Avery Chairez followed with a straight-set win over Maggie Mendoza at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-4.

Ashley Afalla earned a No. 4 singles victory over Maria Vera of Livingston in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.

Keanna Garza tallied a No. 5 singles win over Karina Ramos in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Santana Mata added a three-set triumph over Elisa Armenta, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.

Patterson players won two of the three doubles matches.

Patterson’s No. 2 doubles team, Ngoc Nguyen and Arianna Rico, defeated Avneet Uppal and Cynthia Frias 6-4, 6-1. Catarina Borges and Wendy Zuleta, the No. 3 pair, added the Tigers’ final win of the match.

Against the Pacheco Panthers, Patterson won three of six singles matches and swept doubles play.

In the No. 1 singles spot, Kelby Norfleet easily defeated Pacheco’s Jackie Carranza in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.

Kendal Norfleet outplayed her opponent in the No. 2 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-2 against Kristen Palmer.

Garza added a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win against Vanessa Salazar in the No. 5 singles spot.

Nguyen and Antonia Perez were winners at No. 1 doubles, topping Aimee Wheeler and Leilani Cano 6-0, 6-4.

Patterson duo Borges and Zuleta took the No. 2 doubles match, dispatching Ruth Ramirez and Kayla Ayala 6-2, 6-3.

Patterson got its final match victory in the No. 3 doubles competition, as Dora Cantu and Leslie Diaz won a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 decision over Maria Martinez and Mariah Moreno.
