A gas leak near Northmead Elementary School was quickly cleared away after a prompt response from the Patterson Fire Department, Stanislaus County Sheriffs and PG&E on Friday, June 29.

The cause of the leak, which occurred around 12:30 p.m., stemmed from a construction accident to place in a water line near the campus. In the process, the constructors punctured a gas line in the process, said Captain Marty Greunke of the Patterson Fire Department.

Tenth to L Streets were closed down by local Sheriffs and the Patterson Fire Department while PG&E was called to the scene.

No one was injured during the incident. Most homes in direct effect were vacant.

“It was a quick clean-up job,” said Greunke, who stated PG&E was finished by 1:30 p.m.
