Young writers honored with awards

Patterson Joint Unified School District has honored several young writers as winners of its Winter Writing Program for April and May. The winners received a certificate and gift card for their achievements in the art of prose and poetry during recent school board meetings.

Elementary students who were recognized at the April 15 board meeting were Apricot Valley Elementary second-graders Diego Ortiz, first place; Ashley Colwell, second place; and Leo Refil, third place.

At the May 13 board meeting, the district honored Apricot Valley second-grader Hannah deGroot, first place; Apricot Valley third-grader Kaelyn Holman, second place; and third-grader Luis Fernandez of Las Palmas Elementary School, third place.

The district also honored the following Patterson High School students: sophomore Rosio Morales Gomez, first place; senior Haleigh Jack, second place; and seniors Ashton Young, Angelica Garcia, Shantel Perez, third place.
