Police booked a 20-year-old Patterson man into Stanislaus County Jail in Modesto on Tuesday on suspicion of hitting the 18-year-old mother of his child.

The woman called police after the man broke into her home, ripped the phone from the socket and slammed her head against a wall, she told police.

She did not have visible injuries, though the man had scratches on his arms. Deputies believed she caused the scratches while trying to defend herself.
