This council will face decisions on plenty of big issues in the months to come. Those include renewal of the city’s police contract with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department; the arrival of a substantial, and as yet unidentified, distribution center in West Patterson Business Park; and the opening of an Amazon.com Inc. fulfillment center in early summer.
In the midst of those challenges, we hope to see the new council work together despite differences of opinion. In the past, much accusatory rhetoric has been exchanged between former City Councilwoman Annette Smith and Molina’s supporters — and between Smith and Lustgarten — and little of it has benefited our community.
A governing board can benefit from varied perspectives, and it’s natural to disagree, but there is way to do so and be civil.
We hope for a bright future for the council and the city of Patterson.
