“I’m proud of the work we did to bring together people that normally don’t work together,” Gray said late Tuesday. “I’ll continue to do that work in the California Assembly.”
District 21 encompasses the West Side of Stanislaus County and all of Merced County.
The race between Gray and Mobley had taken a heated turn in recent months, as Gray’s campaign took aim at Mobley for advocating for a sales tax increase and for attempting to place a Merced racetrack on prime farmland, and Mobley’s campaign alleged that Gray would support a major tax hike.
On Tuesday, someone appeared to have hacked into Mobley’s website. The Google link to the site led instead to a page about pop star Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way” tour. By early Wednesday, it was listed as a “reported attack page” that had been blocked. There was no indication of who may have hacked the site.
Nate Monroe, a spokesman for Gray's campaign, said Wednesday that he had not heard about the incident, but said it was unnecessary and in poor taste.
"It didn't make the rounds in Adam's campaign at all," he said.
Mobley, a U.S. Air Force veteran, runs a ServiceMaster franchise in Merced. He previously ran unsuccessful campaigns in the 17th Assembly District against Cathleen Galgiani, D-Livingston in 2008 and then again in 2010.
Gray previously worked on the staffs of several Democratic leaders, including Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, when Cardoza served in the state Assembly.
