Second thoughts on garage sale

EDITOR,

I advertised a garage sale through the Patterson Irrigator on Aug. 13. I put out front items for sale, plus a patio set. Before I could move the patio set, it was stolen from in front of my house late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Of course, shock sets in, because, first of all, you cannot imagine someone doing that, and secondly, the patio set is large with four chairs. Who would do such a thing? I put the umbrella and stand out front, because whoever stole it forgot those two items.

I believe, like anywhere else, these things happen, but I am really amazed how even in having this garage sale, people really do not want to buy. I asked for $5 and would be offered $4. You already do not want to sell your stuff because of a job loss or foreclosure, but don’t demean the stuff, either. So the person offering $4 pulls out a $20 bill. Why? Why? Why?

So if your friend or neighbor shows up right now with a nice patio set, stating they bought it from a garage sale, I would have to think twice.

Vicki Shark, Patterson
