A 21-year-old Patterson woman charged with hitting a bicyclist with her car and leaving him to die near Turlock in September added another traffic citation to her record March 25.

Five days before she was scheduled for her most recent court appearance, Vanessa Carrillo was cited for driving on a suspended license. Her license had been revoked about two weeks earlier, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Since 2008, court records show Carrillo has incurred five other traffic violations.

Carrillo is accused of hitting 27-year-old cyclist Patrick O’Connor from behind with her 1999 Toyota while driving westbound on Fulkerth Road, just east of North Blaker Road, on Sept. 1. She faces criminal charges of felony hit-and-run resulting in injury and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

O’Connor, a tax consultant from Sacramento who was in Turlock on business, was reportedly in training for an Iron Man competition at the time.

During a March 30 hearing, Carrillo’s case was postponed until Wednesday, April 6. On that date, a judge will consider the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office’s request that a bail be set for Carrillo, claiming she may be a flight risk.

Want to know what is wrong with our society? This case is a classic example. A murdered, someone that hit, killed, watched, and left the scene, then drove without a license as a way to show that she just doesn't care, will get off without spending time in jail. According to the modbee, she got a four year jail term but won't have to serve any time if she behaves. She has yet to show that she takes responsibilty for her actions. She is a murderer and should be locked up for the maximum amount. Instead, our streets, our kids and neighbors, are in danger of murderers like this out on the streets. When will there be justice for murders? When will people really be held accountable for their actions? When will society finally say enough is enough and put these people behind bars where they belong?

Why hasn't the Irrigator covered this more?

Maybe she knows someone on staff???

She must know somebody. She basically got off scott free for murder. Against all common sense, she committed this very cold hearted crime and won't pay for it. What is this world coming to when someone gets away with something this bad?

She got off because she is romantically involved with a Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy. I thought that was common knowledge by now. I guess it's not. She did ride alongs while in college and she hooked up with her ride along Sgt. He was the first or second person she called after she committed her deadly hit and run. She won't spend a day in jail because of this affair she is having. Sad but true! Why the Irrigator hasn't covered it more? Clearly, the connections run throughout the lovely city of Modesto!

Great news everyone. Ms. Carrillo is out free, driving and partying without a worry in the world.

According to the Modesto Bee this morning, she was arrested and then let out on bail.

I would like to know what traffic violation she committed that cause them to pull her over in the first place. They wouldn't have known she was on a suspsended until AFTER they pulled her over for some other infraction. Wonder what that infraction was? Why didn't she go to jail for driving on a suspended? People get arrested for that all the time. Why not her? Cause she is young and hispanic? I think political correctness has taken over this case! This girl needs to be held accountable for the devestation she has already caused and the danger she continues to expose the public to by her blanant disregard for the law!

A flight risk? How about a safety risk? She shows absolutely no regard for the law or the safety of others.

She doesn't have a license, so what does she do? She drives herself to court, openly and jokingly flaunting the system that is designed to keep us safe.

She needs to be off the streets and needs to be held accountable for her actions.

She should be in jail. Murderers belong in jail. She should not be allowed to go out partying and having the time of her life.

She is a cold blooded killer. Had she stopped and helped a dying man after an accident, it would have been that, an accident. Instead, she has shown her open disregard for others, for the safety and well being of others, so that she can "have fun". She stopped, looked at a dying man, and left him there. That is murder.

And the hits (no pun intended) just keep on comin'. Suspended liscense, numerous other violations... and now murder. Hopefully, this time she takes responsibility for her immature, neglegent selfish behavior.

I finally got to see Vanessa Carrillo face to face today. I gave her way to much credit. I thought she was just young and dumb and made a bad decision...there is something very wrong with this girl! She was sentenced today and the family and friends got to speak, not once did she lift her head!! She never acknowledge anyone speaking. Standing outside the courtroom she did manage to stare down and mock a few people. Inside she covered her ears and never looked up! Her arrogance is astounding!! Her only take away today was on her twitter account where she said something like, "Remember: they wouldn't bother with you if you were nothing". As if we were there because she is "all that"! We were there because she killed a man who was loved by many. Never have I witnessed such cold heartedness in my life. No doubt she will do this again!
