EDITOR,

With the Democrats now having a supermajority in both houses of the Legislature, the principle of checks and balances has now been nullified. More than ever, we need representatives with a backbone to stand up to party bosses. Adam Gray now has the opportunity to demonstrate whether he has a backbone made of steel or a backbone made of jelly. It gives me pause for concern that almost none of his campaign money came from the district he’s representing.

Efrain Rojas, Los Banos

Editor’s note: Gray, the Democratic candidate for the 21st State Assembly District, was elected to that post on Nov. 6.
