![]() Taking Care of Business - Maddy Houk Rick and Leticia Barron bought Farinha’s Floral on Dec. 14 from previous owners Pam and Chip Bluett of Gustine. They plan to sell more items, including garden products, urns, pillars, statuary and giftware, from the 28 S. Del Puerto Ave. location. The Barrons have owned Blue Floral Co. since April 1992 and opened Blues Café four years later. Both businesses are at 30 S. Del Puerto Ave. “We’re going to keep it as a flower shop,” Leticia said of Farinha’s Floral. “We’ll display flowers in the same creative fashion that we do here.” Rick said they will continue to offer wireless Internet services and continue to deliver to the whole West Side, as well as to Turlock and Modesto. “It will allow us to display different styles of flower arranging and allow us to carry a wider variety of product,” Rick said of the new location. The couple is excited about the expansion. “We look forward to continuing to serve the community and meeting current and new customers,” Rick said. Blue Floral Co. is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m Sunday. For information: 892-2553. Blues Café is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. For information: 892-5282. Community comes forth The Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce collected about 1,000 coats and hundreds of gifts at Christmas time, representatives announced this month. After chamber volunteers gave items to about 200 people Dec. 22, chamber president Ellen Calmettes put a big bin of coats outside the U.S. Bank branch on Plaza Circle with the sign, “Please take one.” “It was cold during that weekend,” Calmettes said. “On Monday, I came to work, and the bin was empty. So, I took the rest of the coats and filled it again, because obviously word got out that we had jackets.” In no time, the bin was empty again. Calmettes said the reason so many coats and jackets were collected was that people really pulled together. Several businesses and groups came forth this year to help those in need, and Calmettes plans to organize the same folks to work together as a team for the 2008 holidays. “The good thing that happened this year is I talked to other organizations to all pull together and work on getting coats and gifts for next year,” Calmettes said.
