“Any time you can keep a team down in that scoring range, you’re doing a good job defensively.” — Jason McCleery, Patterson girls basketball coach The Patterson girls basketball team dropped in seven first-half 3-pointers Saturday en route to a 61-44 win over host Central Catholic in Modesto. The Tigers hit nine 3s in all. Patterson combined its on-target perimeter shooting with an assertive defensive effort, keeping the Raiders at bay throughout most of the game. Five of the Tigers’ first-half 3-point shots came in the second quarter, with sophomore forward Cassie Coble nailing down three of them. In all, 21 of Patterson’s 29 first-half points came courtesy of the 3-ball. The Raiders managed only 15 first-half points against a strong Tigers defense. “Any time you can keep a team down in that scoring range, you’re doing a good job defensively,” Patterson coach Jason McCleery said. Coble finished the game with a team-high 15 points and 13 rebounds. Teammate Shavon Furrow added 12 points and eight assists. The win improves the Tigers’ overall record to 11-10.
