Lee Lundrigan, Stanislaus County clerk recorder and registrar of voters, reminds voters that
“unaffiliated voters” can vote on either a nonpartisan ballot or a ballot from one of two political parties in the upcoming Presidential Primary Election on Feb. 5.

An unaffiliated voter is a voter who is either registered as a nonpartisan or registered with a nonqualified political party. Affiliated parties are the American Independent Party, Democratic Party, Green Party, Libertarian Party, Peace & Freedom Party and Republican Party.

Unaffiliated voters will be given the opportunity to choose a nonpartisan ballot or one from the American Independent Party or Democratic Party. For any other political party, they must reregister and select a new party affiliation.

Absentee applications
Stanislaus County voters who are registered to vote and who would like an absentee ballot must send a written request with the voter’s name, address, home address, address to which the ballot is to be mailed and the voter’s signature by the Jan. 29 deadline.

Voters may obtain an absentee ballot by doing one of the following:
  • Fill out a vote-by-mail application on the back cover of the sample ballot booklet sent to each registered voter.
  • Send a letter addressed to the elections office, 1021 I St., Modesto 95354.
  • Drop by the elections office, 1021 I St., in Modesto.
By law, absentee ballots cannot be requested by phone, because signatures are required.
