The City Council will consider a proposal to cut Patterson’s garbage pickups from twice to once a week. 50 years ago — Jan. 16, 1958 Victor Bowman of Patterson is one of three adults honored by the Yosemite Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America with the Silver Beaver award, the highest Scouting honor at the council level. Crows Landing is planning a Hometown Jubilee, to be sponsored by the Women’s Club. Diane Gerber, daughter of the Paul Gerber family of rural Westley, is one of four county young people to receive all-star 4-H Club honors. She has belonged to the Patterson 4-H Club the past five years. 75 years ago — Jan. 20, 1933 A long drought was broken this week by the first real storm of the season. It dumped 2.61 inches of rain. A crew of 61 men, put to work by Stanislaus County, is making great progress on improving Del Puerto Canyon Road while camping out in the canyon. All of the workers were previously unemployed. Patterson High’s boys basketball team came from behind to tip Newman 22-18, as Glenn Hamilton dumped in eight points. Patterson Irrigator archives.
