A dual-language presentation and an update on a high school facility plan will be discussed Monday at Patterson Unified School District’s board meeting at Rising Sun Elementary School in Vernalis.

Arturo Duran, principal of Rising Sun and Grayson Charter School in Westley, will report on results of district-wide surveys regarding dual-language immersion and its expansion to other local schools.

Dual-language students are taught classes in both Spanish and English.

Task force members are looking into locations, program design, staffing and entry criteria for the program. The task force will make recommendations for elementary and secondary school programs.

Mark Wheeler, the district’s manager of facilities and construction, will update the board on the Patterson High School Facilities Master Plan. Modernization at the local campus will be carried out in phases, as recommended by a committee of administrators, staff, counselors, teachers and students.

Committee findings include the need for a central office and front door; more conveniently placed lockers; upgrades for bathrooms and more bathrooms on campus; protected outdoor places to eat lunch on rainy days; and more classrooms to accommodate a growing student population.

The board will prioritize specific projects for the high school.

Projects for other schools in the district will be discussed within the next six months.
