At a glance
Patterson Police Services arrested three people last week on suspicion of stealing more than $20,000 worth of music equipment and electronics from Patterson Covenant Church in December. Police suspect Scott Drummond, 21, Jessie Harris, 19, and a 15-year-old boy were responsible for burglarizing the church at 435 W. Las Palmas Ave. All the suspects are from Patterson. The two men are no longer in the sheriff’s custody, and police did not release the status of the boy. ![]() Rev. Glen Morden “Think if it were your church,” Hickman said. As of Thursday, leads on the still-missing items had dried up. “There’s still quite a bit of property out there,” Hickman said. That includes two Norcent 42-inch flat-screen televisions and the Rev. Glen Morden’s acoustic guitar. “Just a real special guitar,” Morden said. “The guy that taught me gave it to me.” People who suspect they might have purchased some of the stolen items can return them to the police station, no questions asked, Hickman said. Police think more people might have participated in the burglary. For now, Morden tries to make the best of the burglary. “It brought (the church) together in ways I didn’t think would happen,” the pastor said. “It was almost refreshing.” ![]() Back to business: Patterson Covenant Church secretary Jennifer Nelson sits at her desk Thursday. Her computer turned up with data still intact after a Dec. 14 burglary, but some items stolen from the church remain missing. The printer shown at left, for example, is a replacement. Photo by Elias Funez/Patterson Irrigator “(We’re getting) full-out alarms to protect the building,” Morden said. He figures someone hid in the building after a musical performance the night of Dec. 14. That person then probably opened a window to let the others in, he suggested. “They basically had the whole night,” Morden said. After the burglary, several churchgoers reported seeing people at the performance who had never been in the church before, raising suspicions. Then, police received an anonymous tip telling them the stolen property was at a location those same people were known to frequent. That led to the search of two Patterson homes. Police withheld the homes’ locations. Morden said the men and the boy who were arrested were at the church to see a friend perform and probably decided to burglarize the church during the show. He’s happy to have at least some of the items back and plans to talk to the people police arrested. “I’m not good with justice. I’m good with grace,” Morden said. “Maybe I can administer some to them.” To reach John Saiz at the Irrigator, call 892-6187 or e-mail him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
