Patterson took 17th place out of 41 schools at the Lady Lancer Girls Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at East Union High School in Manteca. The event is the only all-girls round-robin wrestling tournament in California. This was also the first time in school history that Patterson High sent members of its team to an all-girls tournament. Patterson finished with 23 points. Pittsburg took top billing in the tournament, with 153 points, followed by Vallejo with 123 points and Logan of Vallejo with 94 points. The only other school in Stanislaus County to place ahead of Patterson was Enochs in Modesto, which scored 28 points. Patterson’s Savannah Vento took third place in the 118-pound category, placing behind Cody Davis of Half Moon Bay and Morgan Montgomery of Liberty. An unsigned bout sheet kept Patterson wrestler Abbie Ariano from officially taking home third-place honors in her weight category at the tournament. “I gave her one of my old medals and told her that she had a third-place finish, regardless of what the newspapers say,” Patterson coach Lee Scoles said. “Given the fact that we only took four girls and placed 17th, I think that’s excellent,” Scoles said.
