Close to 60 people this week showed up to Patterson workshops regarding plans to develop a former naval base, with many attendees leaving with more questions than answers.
PCCP West Park, which is negotiating with the county to develop the Crows Landing Air Facility, started a series of workshops in Patterson on Monday to discuss the proposed 4,800-acre industrial project.
Developers said the project would offer 37,000 jobs, but they could not answer many questions people had about traffic concerns, saying more studies need to be completed.
A rail connection to the Port of Oakland is the “cornerstone” of the project, a West Park representative said. At full build-out in 2021, developers expect six trains would make roundtrips from the base to the port daily, blocking Patterson traffic for about 24 minutes a day — far less time than predicted by project opponents.
West Park representatives talked about the 37,000 people who would work at the base, and said the project would reduce the shipping costs of agricultural goods via a rail
