City receives flag football grant Patterson’s Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded a $1,500 grant from the National Football League’s Youth Fund, in partnership with the National Recreation and Parks Association. Each applicant submitted detailed information concerning the state of youth football to qualify for funding through the competitive process. Both tackle and flag football programs were considered for support across the country. The city of Patterson received funding support for the Youth NFL flag football to provide scoreboards. The program serves about 200 children each fall. “We are very pleased to receive this award,” said Adrienne Chaney, director of Patterson Parks and Recreation. “The equipment we are purchasing will greatly enhance our NFL Flag Football program and help our department fulfill our vision of creating community through people, parks and programs.” Nearly 150 agencies received funding, totaling almost $300,000 to enhance programs and create stability for the future of football at the grassroots level.
