All hail the Tigers
EDITOR,
Pride and heart. These are the words that come to mind when I think back on Patterson High School’s 2007 football season. The Patterson Tigers played with so much of both, and they never lost either during this season of tough games, tough calls and two tough losses.
There were too many great players and too many great plays to mention, but to name a few:
The amazing Daniel Reza, who always bounced back like he hadn’t just been flattened; Robby Samano, who could go from the 50-yard line to the end zone in the blink of an eye; Keith Yamamoto, who could get through the middle like Houdini or level an opposing player like a steamroller; Gordy Inocencio, who could plow through players like they weren’t even there; Josh Ham, who was seemingly everywhere a big play needed to be made; Ronyea Ellington, who could jump up and pluck the ball from the sky; and Alfredo Serrano, who could make an offensive player feel like a brick wall had fallen on him.
And we will never, ever forget our fabulous cheerleaders, who gave us about 15,000 high kicks this season. Way to go, girls!
The team may not have come away from the big game with a win, but they made history and came away with the respect and adoration of their school, their town, and their fans. More importantly, they came away with their pride and heart intact. They should be very proud because we are very proud to call them “our Tigers.”

The real woman responsible
EDITOR,
In the Dec. 12 edition of the Irrigator, you published a great picture of the Kids Helping Kids project on Page 28. The only problem is that you gave credit to the wrong teacher for the distribution of toys. Mrs. Diane Peterson is the teacher who guided this wonderful project from inception to the result reported.
Mrs. Peterson started out with 20 students who needed a project to do and decided to initiate this new project at Patterson High School. She has done such projects in her own community of Hilmar for years. So, when the students wanted a project, she offered to be the teacher in charge, and that she has been from beginning to end.
It was Mrs. Peterson who helped the students organize and think about the possibilities to raise money for children in need in Patterson. She and her students, as can be seen in the photo, did an outstanding service project for this community. I was fortunate to have a small role as a teacher helper in the project, but 100 percent of the credit belongs to Diane and her students.

Give West Park green light
EDITOR,
The Stanislaus County Council of Governments hopes to get $26 million for a short-haul rail link between the Port of Oakland and the Crows Landing airfield. This is a good idea for the region. This will create much-needed jobs for our greater community and improve the air quality by reducing the number of trucks used for shipping cargo and using short-haul rail.
