Helping with a big smile

Lending a hand: Josh Hamm helps a shopper find a pair of shoes last week as Kids Helping Kids, a group of Patterson High School students, took 29 Patterson children shopping for new clothes. Sixteen students participated in raising more than $4,500 to make this trip possible. Because of an extra discount from Kohl’s, four more children will be taken shopping next week.

Chaperones picked up the children at their homes and drove them to Kohl’s in Turlock, where each child got to buy more than $150 worth of warm clothes, coats and shoes.

After the shopping trip, the children were taken back to the PHS cafeteria, where teacher Anne Hazelton had pizza and hamburgers donated by McDonald’s, Pizza Plus, Mountain Mike’s and Touchdown Pizza.

Then, Santa arrived, and with the help of teacher Mary Brandt, toys were distributed.
