25 years ago — Dec. 9, 1982 Wayne Corral (1969) plowed over for a touchdown, Rosario Tanori drilled a 28-yard field goal and Mario Martinez (’74) intercepted three passes to lead the Patterson High alumni team to a 9-6 win over the Gustine alumni. David Santos has been elected president of the local school board. Brothers Mario and Alfonso Ielmini have donated a new $9,000 organ to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Wind gusts that topped out at 48 mph this week battered the West Side. 50 years ago — Dec. 5, 1957 J.C. Gaither will be the new pastor of the local Assembly of God Church, replacing the Rev. T.E. Fourt at the end of the month. T.A. Pedersen is the new Cubmaster of Pack 80 in Crows Landing. Den leaders are Gerry Morganti, Alvira Tosta, Beth Peters, Julia Pedersen, Mary Cabral and Frances Tyler. Patterson High’s $334,000 gymnasium will be dedicated Friday evening at the halftime of the PHS-Hughson game. 75 years ago — Dec. 9, 1932 A local outbreak of influenza, one of the most contagious since the war, has hit the community. Patterson’s huge Christmas tree in the downtown plaza is being decorated with lights for the holiday season. The annual community gathering around the tree, when about 700 socks of toys and bags of candy and nuts will be given to youngsters, has been set for Dec. 23. Relief work in Del Puerto Canyon for the unemployed is being planned by county officials. Improvement of the roadway and bridges will be undertaken by those out of work. Patterson Irrigator archives.
