Kickboxers roll out six-fight show card
Six students at Patterson Kickboxing Academy took to the ring Nov. 18 at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose.

Ranging in age from 14 to 58, the fighters competed in two-round and three-round exhibition matches, in which there was no scoring.

Local teenage kickboxers included 14-year-old Anthony Chacon at 126 pounds, and Patterson High School senior Anthony Becerra at 159 pounds. Becerra competes on the varsity wrestling and swim teams at the high school.

Another teen, 195-pounder Nelson Rivera Jr., stepped into the ring in San Jose during a similar exhibition bout this summer.

Steve Rivera, a 130-pounder, competed in the Muy Thai kickboxing division, while Nelson Rivera Sr. battled at 172 pounds.

Damian Garcia, assistant to Patterson Kickboxing Academy co-owner Mitch Heramia, competed in the heavyweight division.

Youth basketball signups this month
Registration for Junior National Basketball Association and Junior Women’s National Basketball Association recreational youth basketball starts Dec. 22.

The recreational program, sponsored by the Patterson Parks and Recreation Department, is designed to acquaint young people with basketball fundamentals.

The program also will focus on sportsmanship and skill development. Volunteer coaches and team parents are welcome.

Priority online registration will be Dec. 22 through Jan. 2. Regular registration follows from Jan. 3 to Jan. 18. Registration fee is $45.

Patterson softball team wins local title
Diamond Hay, a local softball team of former and current Patterson residents, won the Mountain View League championship earlier this month.

The team went 11-2-1 during the regular season and 2-0 in the playoffs to win the league, which was played at Mountain View School at Crows Landing Road and West Main Street, several miles east of Patterson.

Diamond Hay won the championship game, 9-6.

The team consisted of player-coach Bobby Thompson, Aaron Days, R.J. Days, Eric Musson, Jeff Lopes, Jason Oliveira, Carlos Medina, Rudy Lozano, Michael Castillo and Justin Gomes.
