People who post for-sale signs on their cars and park them on public roadways might have to find another selling technique soon. Patterson police Chief Tyrone Spencer took a proposal to the Patterson City Council on Tuesday, which would make it illegal to park any vehicle with a for-sale sign along a public roadway. The council directed city staff to draft an ordinance and present it to the council at a future meeting. ![]() Cars with for-sale signs parked on public streets, such as this one on Sperry Avenue, might soon be made illegal. The council suggested banning the parking of vehicles with for-sale signs from only certain streets. Spencer advised against that, saying the owners would simply move their vehicles to a different street. “Designating areas means they move down the road,” Spencer said. Spencer and City Manager Cleve Morris said deputies would not cite people who have a car parked in front of their homes. “Obviously, they wouldn’t be ticketed with that,” Morris said. Council members said they’d hold their opinions about the matter until a specific ordinance is presented. “I think that’s when we’ll have serious discussions,” Councilwoman Annette Smith said. Council members said they hoped residents would let them know their opinions before the council ruled on the ordinance.
