25 years ago — Nov. 25, 1982 A funeral service was conducted Saturday for longtime Patterson resident Dorothy Harrison, 70, who came here in 1934 as a teacher. She was a longtime newspaper reporter and volunteer involved in dozens of community activities. The West Stanislaus Growers Association will host a grand opening of its new 7,000-square-foot facility in Westley. Patterson City Council has given approval for the police department to add a canine unit. Three eighth-graders earned straight-A grades. They are Rick Day, Craig Goodman and Jerry Noah. Albert Anderson, 17, is the new junior member of the Patterson Planning Commission. 50 years ago — Nov. 21, 1957 The hospital district has received two proposals for ambulance service for the community. Local sixth-graders will participate in the outdoor education program this school year for the first time, Superintendent W.T. Boyarsky has announced. Turkey was selling this week for 33 cents per pound at Azevedo’s Market, while Klein’s Market has sirloin steak on special for 69 cents a pound. The West Side Shrine Club will again this year donate a truckload of food items to the Crippled Children’s Hospital in San Francisco. Scheduled to make the trip are Wally Hoessel, Harvey Hinman and Arthur Stangeland. 75 years ago — Nov. 25, 1932 Patterson’s Safeway store plans to move into the building across the street from its present location. It’s been nearly seven months, since last April, since the West Side has seen a drop of rain. A fire alarm Tuesday night drew a large crowd on North Fourth Street, but it was just a practice run for volunteer firefighters. Chief Ossie Ball had ignited a pile of brush for the training. Patterson High’s football team is the reigning section champ after stomping Sutter Creek, 34-6, on Saturday afternoon on the local field. With Glenn Hamilton at quarterback and Boots DelBraggio at fullback, the locals bounced back after the previously undefeated visitors drew first blood in the opening quarter.
