In his final game in the novice division, Ruben Rosas Jr. lived up to his reputation as a Patterson Redskins All-Star. Rosas had two interceptions and a 38-yard rushing touchdown as the American Football Conference posted a 25-0 victory over the National Football Conference on Saturday at Patterson Community Stadium. He joined forces with All-Stars from Escalon, Central, Modesto Rams, Modesto Christian, Big Valley, Modesto Patriots and Ripon in the Trans-Valley Youth Football League All-Star game. Rosas, who played middle linebacker and safety for the AFC on defense, stepped up when he intercepted the NFC on its second drive late in the first quarter and on a later NFC drive midway through the second quarter. ![]() Ruben Rosas Jr. leads the way for the AFC All-Stars. I just wanted a pick.” In the second half, Rosas provided the AFC with much-needed breathing room when he rumbled 38 yards down the sideline for a 13-0 lead with six minutes, 58 seconds left in the third quarter. “I just followed my blocker, (Redskins player) Hunter Powers,” Rosas said. “I had a feeling we would win. It was awesome and just a good feeling. I just wanted to win.” Later, Rosas had the final block on a 46-yard touchdown run by Noah Jones to give the AFC a 19-0 lead with 4:12 left in the third quarter. Patterson novice coach Read Weinzheimer said Rosas was effective on both sides of the ball. “Ruben shut down the middle when he played middle linebacker,” Weinzheimer said. “He did set the whole tone of the game with his run.” Rosas was joined by teammates Powers, Miguel Mejia-Miranda, Paul Maese and Chase Mullen in the All-Star game. Junior Varsity Patterson Redskins player Tanner Torres caught a 22-yard touchdown in the third quarter as the AFC used a strong second half to win the JV All-Star game 26-7 over the NFC. Torres, a running back, slipped through the NFC secondary and was wide open to catch Andrew Megee’s pass over the defense. “We kept running the ball, and then he found me wide open,” Torres said. “I was pretty surprised. It was a special moment.” Torres was accompanied by teammates Andrew Anderson, Joey Lopes, John Stokman and Miles Jacks on the All-Star team. Varsity Robert Marroquin caught a 30-yard touchdown pass as the AFC completed a three-game sweep of the NFC in a 38-0 victory. “They were all top-notch players,” Patterson varsity coach Rene Cabada said. “The coaches were all kind of joking by saying that it would be nice to have a squad as good as those guys. The talent was overwhelming.” Patterson’s varsity All-Star contingent also included Jackie Sutton, Frankie Sanchez, Vincent Viramontes and Nickolous Ward. The Patterson Redskins finish the season with an awards banquet Dec. 1.
