Business park to get two massive buildings Print E-mail

With a unanimous vote, the Patterson Planning Commission cleared the way Thursday for two large buildings at the Keystone Pacific Business Park in west Patterson.

The buildings will join two other large warehouses in the park that are used as distribution centers by Longs Drugs Stores and Kohl’s. Unlike those, however, the new structures will be built without tenants lined up.

Keystone Corp. and the McShane Corp. plan to build an 840,000-square-foot building, the park’s second largest, and a 530,000-square-foot building. The city estimates the pair could create jobs for as many as 2,000 people.

“This project has the opportunity to bring much-needed jobs to the city,” said Rod Simpson, community development director.

Keith Schneider of Keystone Corp. said the buildings would keep up the park's “momentum” and help attract tenants.

Keystone officials have said getting the Kohl’s and Longs centers more than a year ago was one of the largest deals in the state. More recently, they have been close to making deals with Target Corp., J.C. Penney Co. and Macy’s Inc., but all those business decide to go elsewhere.

In a letter to the city, developers said they hope to start building soon.
