City Council may join with Newman to stop West Park |

Patterson City Council will consider adopting a joint resolution Tuesday with Newman’s City Council opposing PCCP West Park’s plans for the Crows Landing Air Facility.
Staff from both cites have drafted a resolution that lays out the cities’ objections to a 7.5-square-mile industrial and business center at the former U.S. Navy airfield, now owed by Stanislaus County.
“The project has grown to three times the size of the original airbase,” states a report from City Manager Cleve Morris. “In addition, the proposed project includes an inland port linked to the Port of Oakland.
… For these reasons staff from the (cities) of Patterson and Newman have jointly developed the attached resolution.”
The resolution goes on to say that while the cities want to encourage job creation, the massive project proposed by PCCP West Park is not the way to do it. The Newman City Council has yet to decide if it will adopt the resolution.
The council will also consider forming a four-person committee with Newman to address West Side issues. Under the proposal, each council would put two members on the committee.
A report to the council does not say specifically what West Side issues the committee will address, nor how often it would meet. It does mention that a joint meeting between all members of the two councils will be scheduled some time in the future.
In other council matters, the council will consider increasing funding to Patterson Police Services by $22,800 to hire a new deputy and to share a community resource officer with the county.
