Local residents no longer have to travel as far for some medical services, as two Modesto service providers recently have expanded into Patterson’s Del Puerto Health Center.
Stanislaus Cardiology began leasing space at the center in mid-October and will have office personnel at the center half a day each month. Modesto Imaging has leased space at the medical facility since the beginning of the year and soon will lease space behind the center.
Margo Arnold, CEO of Del Puerto Health District, which runs the center, said the two service providers are ready to offer more hours and care to local residents. The health district aims to deliver health care to the West Side, from Vernalis to Gustine. The opening of the radiology and cardiology offices is one of many steps needed to bring in more services and physicians, Arnold said.
Services will expand to meet community demands, she said.
Stanislaus Cardiology has five cardiovascular specialists who can perform various procedures. That includes specializing in arrhythmia management and offering pacemakers. Non-invasive services include stress tests, echocardiograms and vascular ultrasounds.
Services will expand as need demands.
“Our aim is to support the primary care physicians in the community,” said Dr. Samuel S. Baker of Stanislaus Cardiology. “We can best do that by supplying care to the community as we have in Modesto the past 30 years.”
Meanwhile, Modesto Imaging, which has leased space inside the health center since January, will begin leasing space behind the center at 1108 Ward Ave., Building D, in the first quarter of 2008. Eventually, the radiology group plans to build its own office.
Modesto Imaging’s services include X-rays and ultrasound tests to start with. It eventually plans to add more services as business grows.
A medical doctor must refer patients for all services at both Modesto Imaging and Stanislaus Cardiology.
One of Del Puerto Health District’s aims with the new businesses is to have medical services closer to home.
“The goal is to provide as many services as possible, allowing the residents of the district to receive medical care in the community without traveling,” Arnold said.
Del Puerto Health Care District board member Betty Carlson, who has volunteered to take patients to doctor appointments in Modesto and Turlock over the years, said having the offices locally makes things easier for a lot of people.
“For a number of years, I helped out through Catholic Charities to take people to their appointments,” she said. “Now, we don’t have to do that.”
