25 years ago — Sept. 30, 1982
Mother Nature dumped 1.27 inches of rain on the West Side’s tomato crop, temporarily stopping the fall harvest.
Jerry Musson has been appointed to the local hospital board, succeeding Ed Hammon, who decided not to seek reelection.
Andrea Tenbrink and Tom Maring head the Patterson and Vernalis 4-H clubs, respectively.
Patterson junior and senior high students are using a new computer program.

50 years ago — Sept. 26, 1957
The epidemic of Asian flu across the country has struck Patterson schools, which had 178 students out on Wednesday.
Patterson FFAers are initiating a scrap metal drive. Proceeds will be used to buy a tractor for their farm.
Larry Costa, affectionately called “The Toe” by his teammates, kicked a short field goal to give the Patterson High Tigers a 23-20 victory against Amador of Pleasanton.
Glenn Hamilton has been selected to serve his sixth term as president of the Patterson High School Board of Trustees.
The federal government has taken control of Oak Flat Road, long a source of irritation between those who lease and own land in that area and the hunters who swarm into the Coast Range foothills during hunting seasons. The government will use 2,300 acres of land for a practice bombing range for the Crows Landing Naval Base.

75 years ago — Sept. 30, 1932
A crackdown on drivers who run stop signs at Sycamore and Las Palmas avenues netted 24 offenders this past week. Each was fined $2, but future fines will go up to $5.
Horsethief Bend is the name adopted for the revival of Pioneer Days to take place Oct. 14 to 16 under the sponsorship of the American Legion. A full schedule of fun and frolic is being planned.
Patterson’s Eastern Star chapter commemorated the ninth anniversary of its founding this week.
Patterson High gridders played Manteca to a 13-all tie Monday afternoon in the only practice game on the schedule.
