If there were any kind of offensive void lingering from Patterson’s loss to Sierra in Week 3, freshman quarterback Cody Weinzheimer found a way to carry the Tigers almost singlehandedly.

Weinzheimer accounted for five of Patterson’s six touchdowns, including three by air and two by foot, as the Tigers used a big first half to cruise past Beyer, 37-20, on Thursday at Patterson Community Stadium.
“If I had to say it, I’d say it was the Cody Weinzheimer Show for tonight,” Patterson coach Kenny Durham said.

Weinzheimer put Patterson (2-1) on the scoreboard in the first quarter. On Patterson’s second possession, Weinzheimer scampered 75 yards for a touchdown to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead.

A kickoff return by Thomas Dodd increased Patterson’s first quarter lead to 12-0.

Beyer surrendered possession again to Patterson, which quickly capitalized in the second quarter as Weinzheimer scored on a 2-yard touchdown to make it 12-0.

The Patriots scored their lone touchdown of the first half to cut Patterson’s lead to 18-6. However, the Tigers countered when Weinzheimer found receiver Juan Perez for a 75-yard touchdown reception, giving Patterson a 24-6 lead at halftime.

Beyer scored on the first drive of the second half, but Weinzheimer and Perez teamed up again for a 77-yard touchdown completion for a 30-12 lead.

Beyer and Patterson traded touchdowns once more, with the Tigers’ final score coming on a 13-yard run from Weinzheimer. Altogether, Weinzheimer passed for more than 200 yards and rushed for more than 100.

“We made adjustments on our offensive line,” Durham said. “I give the line a lot of credit. We kind of put guys in new positions, and we had the week to practice to get them adjusted to their position. They stepped up, and we pounded the ball.”

Patterson’s defense was anchored by Ricky Howard and Shawn Jackson, with five tackles each, including three sacks from Jackson. Reserve Pedro Lamas also contributed with a sack.
