Arson is suspected as the cause of a fire that did $36,000 in damage to a county child development center on Eureka Street in east Patterson.
Patterson Mayor Pat Maisetti has been elected a Central Division director of the California League of Cities and will represent 22 cities in this area.
The local Cub Pack has restarted, with nearly 30 boys signing up this week, according to Cubmaster Steve Henson.
Ofelia Lopez of Patterson is one of a number of art students exhibiting work at Modesto Junior College.
The Rev. Kenneth Page is the new pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Patterson, succeeding the Rev. Kenneth Rowley.

50 years ago — Sept. 19, 1957
A turkey dinner fundraiser in the downtown park is being planned for the new Scout and Youth Building. The price will be $1 for adults and 50 cents for children.
The Federated Church has broken ground on Madrone Lane for a new parsonage.
The city has purchased the former county dump at the end of Eucalyptus Avenue for $250.
Enlargement and remodeling work is complete on the American Trust Company building on the downtown circle.
S&M Market is this week selling a six-pack of 7-Up for 39 cents plus deposit.

75 years ago — Sept. 23, 1932
Patterson’s Pioneer Days celebration is being planned next month by the American Legion, which anticipates a big three-day fun-fest. The growing of facial hair for the Whiskerino Contest has already commenced. Pioneer Days were popular celebrations years ago in both Grayson and Hills Ferry.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Martin, who last operated a restaurant business in Sunnyvale, will soon open the dining room in the Hotel Del Puerto.
Patterson High has only six games on its football schedule this fall, four on the road.
Campbell’s pork and beans were selling three cans for 13 cents this week at the Witten Market.
