“I’ve moved Molly (Conte) into the No. 2 spot, and she’s responded very well.”

Patterson High golf coach
With every passing match, the Patterson High girls golf team is getting closer to its goal of challenging Central Catholic atop the Valley Foothill League.
For now, Patterson settled for a forfeit win over Livingston on Tuesday and a nearly 100-stroke win over Orestimba in Thursday’s tri-meet at Diablo Grande.
Patterson shot 211 on Tuesday against a Livingston squad that was unable to field a team, and another round of 211 on Thursday opposite Orestimba’s team score of 304, boosted by three golfers with rounds of 50 or less.
Leading the charge in Tuesday’s forfeit was Molly Conte, who earned All-League points with her top round of 48. Jessica Hansen, normally the team’s No. 1 golfer, tied with steadily improving Brooke Borba for 50.
“Jessica played great golf with the exception of the first hole, where she took a nine,” Patterson coach Jason Oliveira said. “She really came through. She struggled on the first hole, but she played a great round.”
Conte had been playing in the No. 3 and No. 4 tandem, but has played well enough to warrant a rotation to the first group.
“I’ve moved Molly into the No. 2 spot, and she’s responded very well,” Patterson coach Jason Oliveira said. “Molly was playing some consistent golf. I’m extremely proud of Brooke and Molly. There’s nothing wrong with a 50, which is above average in our neck of the woods.”
Patterson saw similar scores at Thursday’s tri-meet with Orestimba and Gustine. Though Gustine wasn’t able to field a team, much like Livingston, Patterson’s scores still count toward All-League points.
Hansen led the way this time with a 48, followed by Borba at 49, Conte’s round of 50 and Sam Leslie at 64.
At 6-1 in league, the Tigers are tied for second with Hughson behind frontrunner Central, which is 7-0.
Patterson hosts Hilmar on Tuesday at Diablo Grande, travels to the executive River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres to face Hughson on Wednesday, and travels to Modesto Municipal Golf Course on Thursday to play Modesto Christian.
It’s a week that could very well shape the race for second place in the Valley Foothill League, Oliveira said.
“I like our chances, the way we’re playing,” Oliveira said. “I made the girls fully aware that Modesto Christian will come playing, so we’re going to be on our game next week. And I’m expecting Hilmar to give us a battle at Diablo Grande.”
