Predicting the outcomes of football games seems more difficult this year. And for that reason, it’s anybody’s race in the Irrigator’s weekly football contest. So who wins and who loses? Tough call. Experts and Web sites like to say the games are all close and the plays are decided by inches. And that should continue to happen on a number of different occasions in the three remaining weeks of the contest. Still, 10 front-running competitors have emerged and are vying for the title of top pigskin prognosticator. These individuals have participated week after week; as the competition begins to wind down, they have placed themselves in the driver’s seat for the contest’s best overall record. Before this weekend’s slate, the leader of the pack is Maureen Day, with 134 correct picks. The rest of the best are: Dick Day, Benito Covarrubias, Jeff LaScalza, Brad Van Gorden, Lane Van Gorden, Peter Goetz, Janis Hess, Rick Day and Angelo Traina. The individual with the most correct picks throughout the entire contest will receive a gift of Patterson High merchandise. And don’t forget about the big-money prize that’s also still up for grabs. This week, the jackpot swells to $1,000 for any contestant who correctly picks the outcomes of all 20 games.
