The Patterson Redskins’ season has come to an end. The junior varsity Redskins lost their Trans-Valley Youth Football League first-round playoff game Saturday against the Escalon Outlaws, 36-0 at Central Catholic High in Modesto. Coach Read Weinzheimer’s team was the sole Redskins squad in postseason play, earning its way there with an impressive 7-3 record. “(Defeating Escalon) would have been a tall task,” Weinzheimer said. “About 30 of their 40 players are 12 or 13 years old, which is the league maximum.” The Redskins battled Escalon but could not overcome a 30-0 halftime disadvantage. Eventually, the size and speed of the Outlaws wore Patterson down. After the game, Weinzheimer remained optimistic, noting that while some of his players will move up to play varsity ball next season, many of them will return to the JV ranks. “This team never quit, and this loss only strengthens their resolve to come back next year and play hard,” Weinzheimer said. “This is really about building football players for the Patterson High team. “Everything ended positive.”
