Two days after snapping its 10-match losing streak with a win at home over Gustine, the Patterson High volleyball team made it two conference wins in a row in a road match against Livingston. The Tigers defeated the Wolves in five games Wednesday: 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 18-25, 15-12. “We played extremely well,” Patterson coach Jennifer Hamm said. Patterson (2-10 WAC) was led by senior Chelsea Taylor, who powered the Tigers’ offense with 16 kills and four aces. She also added 11 digs. Patterson dropped its first game to the Wolves but quickly rallied to even things up with Taylor and Jayme Hansen pushing the Tigers to reclaim the lead 18-17 after Livingston built advantages of 9-6, 14-11 and 16-13. “We came in with the same intensity that we’ve had all season long,” Hamm said. “This is about us fighting to stay in matches and wanting to finish the season out strong.” Patterson ran out to a 12-2 lead in the third game before Livingston scored three straight points to cut it to 12-5. The Tigers scored four of the next five points to push their lead back to 10 points at 16-6. Patterson eventually claimed the game, 25-18. But the Wolves were not going down without a fight. Livingston turned the tables, besting the Tigers in the fourth game, 25-18. The Tigers claimed the deciding fifth game after a see-saw battle in which both teams held the lead. Once again, the senior leadership of the Tigers proved the difference maker. Patterson’s Rebecca Hinojos tallied 14 digs in the win, and Ashley Metzger added 25 assists. “We’ve been in situations like this all year long,” Hamm said. “The difference tonight was that we were able to hang on and collect another win.”
