For the second time this season, the prize for the Irrigator’s weekly football contest was split between a pair of Patterson residents. Galen Breasher and Janis Hess each compiled a 16-4 record, and each came within 12 points of the contest’s tiebreaker score. Hess is the fourth female contestant to take home at least a share of the weekly winnings, proving once again that the women of Patterson know their football. Hess picked the correct outcomes of several close games, including the winners of both Oregon at California and Pittsburgh at Notre Dame. Breasher predicted a shutout in the Patterson High-at-Livingston tiebreaker game. His guess of 56-0 — in favor of the Tigers — was nearly enough to claim the contest’s winnings outright. Breasher is a Pac-10 football fan, and he studies various odds-maker Web sites for help in making his contest selections. This isn’t the first time Breasher has won the contest. The 45-year-old has been an on-and-off participant since he was 8 years old. With only a couple weeks left in the high school football season, time is running out on the opportunity to get in on the big-money prize. Serious cash is still up for grabs for one lucky pigskin prognosticator.
