Berryhill attacks unfair
EDITOR,
To attack Bill Berryhill’s record on the Ceres school board is like questioning Babe Ruth’s ability to hit home runs. It’s like finding fault with Joe Montana’s ability to win the Super Bowl.

As a Ceres city councilman, I have worked with Berryhill on many projects that have been of immeasurable benefit to our community as a whole. Ceres has a growing economy and the best schools because of accomplished leaders who know how to work as a team with others.

Berryhill’s character and work ethic are exemplary. He is a friend and ally to all who know him.  Needless to say, any attempt to unfairly malign Bill’s integrity will be met swiftly and accordingly. John Eisenhut has stepped way over the line in his personal attacks. How dare he exercise this level of indiscretion?

Please join educators, law enforcement and civic leaders on every level. Please join me in support of Bill Berryhill for Assembly on Tuesday.

A vote for Stokman
EDITOR,
Anne Ielmini Stokman is seeking a seat on the Del Puerto Health Care District Board. She is well qualified and has a desire to serve and to help solve some of the health care needs in our community.

Please give her your vote.

Let youth be heard
EDITOR,
There are 2,673 students enrolled in Patterson High School and Creekside Middle School alone. These teens live in Patterson just like everyone else here, and yet they have a hard time being heard on the decision-making level.

Well, we teens were heard at the Youth Candidate Forum that TIPin Patterson (Teens Impacting Politics in Patterson) held in the high school auditorium on Tuesday. This forum allowed the candidates running for mayor and city council to address issues directly concerning the youth here in Patterson.

This forum was very important, because we have such a large population of restless youth wanting to be heard in Patterson. The youth have had a hard time expressing their ideas, concerns, beliefs and complaints about our city. This forum gave them the chance to do these things.

TIPin Patterson created questions concerning issues we felt are important to our fellow teens and presented them to the candidates. The 100-plus teen attendants of the forum were also given the chance to ask questions that they felt were important. Anyone who wishes to watch a video of our event can find it at http://tipinpatterson.tripod.com.

We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event possible. We would especially like to thank candidates Becky Campo, Luis Molina, Annette Smith and Jeff Realini for attending this event and showing that they believe what the youth has to say is important. TIPin Patterson hopes to continue to be the voice for the teens and their issues here in Patterson. For in the end, the teens’ issues are everybody’s issues.

Lost dog, need help
EDITOR,
Where is our community interaction? Does Patterson have “big business” posing as “community business”? Who are these people in our community who refuse to help Patterson residents when they need it?

We lost our most precious little dog and only wanted to put up fliers in the windows of local businesses to try and get her back. We would take them down as soon as we got her home. We were not soliciting. We were asking for their help, as they are in our community and we patronize their businesses.

Some of them, like McDonald’s, were very cooperative and helpful. Longs Drug Store flat-out refused.

We had to beg Save Mart to help, and finally, after much beseeching, three of their managers agreed to let us hang the fliers. But in the following days, the fliers were all removed again, and again, and again.

The smaller businesses, such as Sherwin-Williams paint store, were cooperative and didn’t hesitate to help. The Dollar Store kept the flier on its window for several days, and the downtown Chevron station still has one on the door.

All the schools, except Las Palmas Elementary, were very happy to cooperate. Las Palmas flat-out refused to let us post a flier. If any fliers are posted on trees or poles, I understand that our elite city workers remove them as fast as they see them.

We talk to people and drive around constantly. We put ads in the Patterson Irrigator — today we are renting space for an ad. We have checked with the animal shelters around the area.

How do we get her back? Why won’t our big businesses help? Are they not in our community? Are we not important to them? Do they only want our money? Where do we go from here?

Bill and Carolann Lee, Patterson
