At a glance
The Patterson Planning Commission will review plans for two new medical office buildings, a day care and a huge old-town piping project on Thursday. The two new buildings would be an expansion of the medical center at 1108 Ward Ave., which houses Del Puerto Health Care Center, En-Vision, Jas Greval D.D.D. and Quest Diagnostics. In plans submitted to the city, developer John Ramos shows the two buildings at about 8,000 square feet each on a 2.8-acre site. In a report to the commission, the buildings are described as “being very similar to the four that already exist on one of the parcels,” assistant city planner Teresa Salas said. Mi Casa Daycare will also go before the commission. The commission approved the day care to operate at 1524 Sperry Ave. in December 2007 with up to 14 children. All day cares that serve more than eight youths are required to get a yearly review. When the day care initially sought the commission’s approval, several of the surrounding property owners showed up to voice concerns about putting a large day care adjacent to homes. So far, Mi Casa has complied with city rules and no complaints have been logged with City Hall, so staff is recommending the business be allowed to continue, said associate planner Joel Andrews. The other item in need of commission approval is an old-town pipe replacement project. When complete, the project would replace the decaying water system in Patterson’s older neighborhoods. The City Council already approved annual sewer and water rate increases to help fund the project. The commission will review two plans submitted by the city’s water consultants, the H2O Group. One plan is estimated to cost about $13.4 million and the other $14.6 million. The consultant recommends the cheaper project.
