Two Patterson men shot in Modesto Print E-mail

Two Patterson men were shot Saturday night while parked in a car in Modesto.

Both men, Stephen Grant, 24, and Maurice Schroder, 22, survived the attack after emergency responders took them to a local hospital, according to the Modesto Police Department.

At about 11:50 p.m., police received reports of a shooting on the 400 block of Maze Boulevard, said Sgt. Brian Findlen of the Modesto Police Department. When police arrived, they found the two men had been shot while in the area of the West Side Market. Schroder had been shot in the arm, and Findlen described his injuries as minor. Grant was shot in the back — Findlen said his injuries were more severe.

Police believe a grey or white four-door car pulled up close to the car Grant and Schroder had been sitting in. For unknown reasons, the occupants reportedly opened fire on Grant and Schroder, putting “numerous” bullets into the vehicle and wounding the two men, Findlen said.

Police did not find any weapons on the victims, and there is no evidence they were armed at the time of the shooting.

Police are looking for at least two suspects described as black men with dreadlocks who were wearing black, hooded sweatshirts at the time of the shooting.

Police encourage anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers, 521-4636.
