A pickup hit an 18-year-old woman in front of Patterson High School on North Ninth Street at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Patterson woman was airlifted to a hospital after the accident.

Initially, her injuries seemed severe. She was convulsing when emergency responders arrived, according to Sgt. Robert Banks of Patterson Police Services. However, by the time the woman was loaded into an ambulance, she was sitting upright and talking.

Numerous people witnessed the accident, Banks said. Close to 100 students milled around the scene shortly after the 18-year-old was hit.

Police do not believe she attends the high school.

The two people in the pickup did not complain of injuries, Banks said.

Patterson’s Public Works Department shut down North Ninth Street from Ward Avenue to Las Palmas Avenue as crews tended to the accident. The helicopter landed in the middle of Ninth Street to pick up the woman.
