Claude Delphia has been elected president of the Apricot Fiesta for the coming year, when the city will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its founding. Delphia was general chairman of the Fiesta in 1976, a position held this year by Joyce Ielmini.

A mysterious sinkhole has appeared in the parking lot just outside Brenda’s Hair Fashions.

Lilly Hudson has sold her popular café in Crows Landing to Caroline Finley, who has renamed it Carol’s Pantry.

Patterson High runners upped their cross country record to 7-1, winning four dual meets this past week, with sophomore Mike Hay leading the way. At the same time, the varsity volleyballers upped their league record to 4-0, with all other teams in the league having two losses.

50 years ago — Oct. 9, 1958
West Side voters may decide in January whether to consolidate the high schools in Patterson, Newman and Gustine into one district.
The Patterson Rifle Club is seeking new members. Those interested should call Frank Frunz or Laurence Kolding.

Patterson High’s line was the difference Friday night, when the Tigers turned back Rio Vista, 13-7. Having strong games were Wes Williams, Bob Bronzan, J.C. Cox, Ronnie Barnes and Frank Alberta.

The Rev. Robert Fox has resigned his pastorate at the First Southern Baptist Church to enter full-time evangelism work.

75 years ago — Oct. 13, 1933
In an effort to curb vandalism, local citizens met this week and recommend that the city’s curfew ordinance be strongly enforced.

The local chapter of the Order of Eastern Star will observe its 10th anniversary next Tuesday.

The Patterson High gridders used a spectacular pass play and run of 90 yards to defeat Ceres 6-0, despite being outplayed most of the game. Glenn Hamilton, in punting formation at his goal line, passed to Boots DelBiaggio, who outran the Bulldog defender for the game’s only score. The visitors advanced four times to within the Patterson 10-yard line but were held scoreless.
